UPD.

http://www.testfreaks.ru/kvm-switches/aten-cs1734b/user-reviews/
Didn't pass EDID information through to PC correctly, so graphics chipset couldn't identify correct monitor resolution.

Usually, this error is benign (if annoying). But I have also experienced, as others have reported, situations requiring a complete shutdown, where the unit fails to be recognized — again, only on Linux (Debian 6.0.0 with kernel 2.6.32-5).

I think the fastest it has ever switched from one system to the next is 5 seconds, and taking less than 10 seconds is rather rare. On occasion, the unit will freeze up altogether and I need to unplug it completely from all attachments to "reboot" the controller and then set it up again from scratch.

I've tried everything I can think of, (PC video driver updates, monitor driver updates) and I'm still left here staring at a blank secondary monitor. When plugging the monitor in directly through the VGA port in the back of my netbook it works perfectly and recognizes it immediately but when running through the KVM the keyboard and mouse work just fine but it will not recognize the secondary monitor no matter how many times I reboot or reinstall drivers.

(already posted in another review) The hot key cycle will stop at any computer that is connected, whether powered up or not. If that computer is not powered up, then the keyboard loses power and the hot key stop working. User must manually select a working computer from this KVM's own buttons.
2. (related to #1) If user disconnects a computer (such as undocking a laptop) while it is selected by the this KVM, then same "loses power and hot key dies" situation occurs.
3. This KVM does not simulate a keyboard/mouse USB connection for the non-selected computers. So each time the KVM switches to another computer, that computer then must restart the keyboard/mouse driver (as if the Kbd/Ms) was was unplugged and plugged in all over again.
4. (already in another review) Cables route to all 4 sides. Does not make for clean, tidy desktop.
5. included cables are rather short. does not work well when PC's are under a desk and access is from behind.

No new software support since 2006. IT CONSTANTLY SWITCHES AUTOMATICALLY. It has been doing this since I purchased but I have finally had enough. I won't even bother trying to give this away.

Device doesn't sense when a connected PC is turned off. When cycling through the three or four attached systems, it lands on the one turned off, and to more to the next system it's necessary to tap the appropriate key on the top of the switch, because the keyboard hot key won't move the switch past the machine that's turned off. This is an annoyance. I contacted Trendnet's support to ask for a work around, and they said there is none because it's a "dumb switch" (their words, not mine). 2. Now and then there's a "freeze," where keyboard and mouse commands no longer pass through to the PC. The only cure seems to be to shut down and disconnect all systems connected, then reconnect and reboot them.

If you switch from one screen to another, and then back again, it's slow as heck in Windows--although this appears to be a Windows / USB issue.
I often flip from screen 1 (main server) to screen 2 (backup server) to check the progress of backups--then switch back. Windows apparently is still in the middle of processing the 'disconnect' of the USB Keyboard and Mouse. It takes a while, then it detects them reconnecting. The delay can be as long as 10-15 seconds.
2. In Linux, recent kernels throw an error message because the USB device isn't fully USB-compliant. It doesn't do anything other than display an annoying error on the server. The device still works correctly. The error message has been fixed in very recent kernels.

a) There is no way to seek randomly using the hot-keys, only linearly.
b) If you have one computer on 1 and another on 4, you can only hot-key from 4 to 1, not 1 to 4.
c) Hooked it up to one computer/monitor and it lost the leftmost quarter of the display until the system was rebooted.

More often than not, I had to wait between 2-5 seconds before the PC was usable again. This switch actually disconnect from one PC, and connects to the next. It's like an old fashion A/B select box, but slower. I also had to unplug it frequently, as either mouse or keyboard would be lost while switching. Mouse sensitivity was terrible. When I moved it slowly, I could see it gitter. Useless in DOS, BIOS, or Windows setup, even with USB emulation turned on.

It looses connection with the mouse & keyboard periodically. You can manually switch monitor views, but you can't do anything until you unplug everything and plug it in again.
2. I like the controlling kvm ports on the front, but putting ports on the side presumably so that they could make the overall footprint smaller was kind of dumb. The cables coming out of the sides cost more space than they saved. Hope they saved some money on that.
3. There is lag. I would expect that with USB but it's much more annoying than I expected. That's my fault maybe for not being realistic.

I've got one of these in May 2009 and it was working until October, when USB port fails and both mouse and keyboard where no longer recognized. Customer support gave me a couple days of heartburn (I had to get wired keyboard and mouse and confirm the failure). Then I had to ship it back and in 3 weeks got a replacement.
Yesterday it failed again with the same symptoms.
I won't be asking for replacement this time. I'd rather buy from another manufacturer.

Basic wheeled mouse works OK.

*Update*
now out of warrantly this product has intermittently stopped working which means you have to unplug it, unwire everything and revert to your directly connected keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Avoid this product.

Previous comments:
This product is flawed on a number of counts.
1) The thing beeps every time an appliance is turned on
2) It beeps every time you change which computer you are controlling
3) It presents all types of keyboard and mice as default USB devices.
4) No third party mouse/keyboard software/media keys will work as the devices are not recognised/supported (see point 3)
5) There is no documentation (technical or otherwise) or software.
6) There are no firmware fixes or way around the problems.
7) It couldn't present an Apple Keyboard to the O/S either.

I contacted D-Link and their response was the following single line!
"This product will not support multimedia functionalities of your keyboard/mouse."
I think I had already established that.

I will never buy another beeping D-Link product again.

I have had this for about two years. The first one stopped working after two months and had to get a replacement.

This kvm switch just about works. Its expensive and for this price you can get a much better one. Like other reviews say, it does not recognize many wireless kb/mice, is erratic and it "just about" works.

One problem that ihad with BOTH of these kvms is the cable. The vga cable stops workign properly after a while and you'd get a blue or red screen on one of the four connections, and the cables are like £15 each so no point replacing them.

Would not recommend. Get some other brand

I've been using this product happily for well over a year, maybe two. I would have given it 5 stars but for the fact that the Microsoft wireless mouse and wired keyboard I had been using needed to be replaced due to wear and tear. I tried a Logitech wireless mouse - it wouldn't work on any of the PCs. Thinking it would be safer I tried a Microsoft wired mouse. No joy. Both mice worked perfectly plugged in direct to a C. Installing or not installing drivers made no difference. My old wireless mouse still works and a mouse I borrowed from a friend also works. I've tried to find out from D-Link what mice I should expect to work with it, but have had no reply. (I replaced the keyboard with the exact same model as the old one and had no problem.)

It's not good enough to proceed by trial and error to find a mouse that works - too expensive!

This KVM has a big problem; very often it repeats endlessly the last keystroke, until you press another key. Since its firmware is not upgradeable there isn't a solution once you have bought it.
